POTENTIAL ENERGY

Potential energy is energy that is stored in an object as a result of its position or condition.

There are different types of potential energy.

Gravitational potential energy
2  Elastic potential energy
3  Chemical energy
4  Nuclear energy

Gravitational potential energy is the energy stored in an object due to its position above the ground. Drop a plate when you are washing up and it falls to the floor. This downward motion is due to the force of gravity. Gravitational force pulls all objects towards the center of the Earth.

Elastic potential energy is the energy stored in an object when deformed by being pulled or pushed.
All of these things have elastic potential energy.

Chemical energy:-

The energy stored in a fuel is the energy that holds its atoms and molecules together. This energy is released by chemical reactions. Food is a store of chemical energy so are electric cells (batteries).
Nuclear energy is the energy contained in the nucleus of an atom. This energy is released during nuclear reactions which are of two types.

Nuclear fission:-
In nuclear fission, an atom is split into two or more smaller , lighter atoms.

2 Nuclear fusion:-
Nuclear fusion in contrast occurs when two or more smaller atoms fuse together, creating a larger , heavier atom.
